Welcome to the Battle of Gettysburg Re-enactment. This year our festival is filled with great delights - wonderful performances, free events, and lots of fun - as well as workshops, master classes and informative demonstrations.
It is a special year for us, one in which we have focused on the Gettysburg Re-enactment mission not only to bring nationally and internationally renowned artists into our midst, but to give back to the community through free events and community partnerships designed to showcase local artists.
The Battle of Gettysburg Re-enactment is set to enrapture festival lovers once again. Our venue will leave you fascinated, captivated and enthralled. With performances ranging from classic to contemporary, traditional to avant-garde, each act will inspire you to greater heights.
Battle of Gettysburg Re-enactment The Battle of Gettysburg was the largest battle in the American Civil War. Over the course of three short days there were 45,000 casualties and 5000 horses perished. This re-enactment is the largest of its kind - over 20,000 people actively participate, while tens of thousands watch. The battle took place in 1863, two years before the conflict finally finished. The key issue at stake was slavery. The northern states opposed it but the southern states, whose economy largely depended upon it, were in favor of perpetuating the system. The battle itself occurred more by accident than design. General Lee was heading northwards towards central Pennsylvania with 75,000 confederate troops when he learned that he was being pursued by 95,000 Union troops. Lee ordered several brigades to forage east and it was here that the two forces met and converged on Gettysburg...more!
